SDDA Committees & Subcommittees
Help Shape Downtown
Volunteers are the TRUE MAGIC of downtown!
Behind every vibrant event, beautifully decorated street, and successful downtown initiative is a team of volunteers working together long before a poster is promoted or the first lights are hung.
At Staunton Downtown Development Association, we’re inviting community members to get involved at a deeper level by joining our event subcommittees and standing SDDA committees—Design, Organization, Promotions, and Economic Vitality—these strengthen the experiences that make downtown magical all year long.
Why Subcommittees Matter
Subcommittees are where ideas take shape. These small, collaborative groups help plan and support signature events like MADcon, SummerFest, and our Downtown Christmas Season, while also contributing to long-term initiatives that support local businesses and downtown vitality.
Whether you’re creative, organized, strategic, or community-minded, there’s a place for your skills—and your voice—at the table.
Ways to Get Involved
Event Planning Subcommittees
Help imagine, plan, and support our signature events throughout the year. Subcommittee members may assist with brainstorming concepts, coordinating logistics, supporting vendors and performers, and helping ensure events feel welcoming and well-run.
Design Committee
Perfect for creatives and visual thinkers. This committee supports event aesthetics, branding, window displays, signage, and overall look and feel—helping downtown tell a cohesive and compelling story.
Organization Committee
For planners and problem-solvers. This group helps with timelines, volunteer coordination, event flow, and behind-the-scenes structure that keeps everything running smoothly.
Promotions Committee
Help spread the word. Volunteers support marketing efforts through social media sharing, content ideas, flyer distribution, and community outreach—making sure people know what’s happening downtown.
Economic Vitality Committee
Focused on the bigger picture, this committee supports initiatives that strengthen downtown businesses, encourage foot traffic, and enhance the overall health of the district.
What Volunteering Looks Like
Subcommittee volunteering is flexible and collaborative. Some roles involve short-term planning for a specific event, while others support ongoing initiatives throughout the year. Meetings are purposeful, welcoming, and designed to respect your time—while making a meaningful impact.
You don’t need prior experience—just an interest in helping downtown thrive.
Be Part of Something Bigger
Volunteering with SDDA isn’t just about events—it’s about connection, creativity, Staunton pride, and seeing our downtown thrive! It’s a chance to meet new people, develop skills, and help shape the future of downtown Staunton.
If you’re interested in joining a subcommittee or committee, we’d love to hear from you. Sign up below to let us know how you’d like to get involved, and we’ll help match you with the right team.
Together, we can keep downtown vibrant—one idea, one event, and one volunteer at a time.
